Custom web application development and installable PWA

Replacing a spreadsheet that has become unmanageable, giving your customers an online portal, equipping your field teams with an app that works even without a network: we develop custom web applications that install on mobile like a native app, without going through the app stores.

What is a custom web application?

A web application is software used in the browser, on desktop as well as on a phone, with user accounts, stored data and specific business functions: order tracking, stock management, scheduling, quotes, customer files, dashboards. "Custom" means it is designed around your way of working, and not the other way round.

It is the right answer when generic tools (shared spreadsheets, off-the-shelf software that is too heavy or too expensive) no longer keep up, or when you want to offer your customers an online service nobody else provides. To clarify the concepts, read Website, web app or SaaS: which to choose?

The PWA: a mobile app without the App Store or Play Store

A Progressive Web App (PWA) installs on the phone's home screen in one tap, opens full screen, sends push notifications and keeps working offline. It updates itself, with no store approval and no 30% commission.

For a business, it is the best cost-to-usage ratio: a single application for iPhone, Android and desktop, developed once, maintained once. Our applications AlergZen (allergen scanner) and TeepTeep (digital tipping) are PWAs used every day. Our article PWA: turn your website into an installable app explains how it works in detail.

    Multilingual, secure, GDPR-compliant

Our applications are designed multilingual from the start (up to 14 languages on some projects), with robust authentication (email, Google, PIN code), roles and permissions, and a PostgreSQL database hosted in Europe. The data collected is limited to what is necessary and documented, in line with the GDPR.

The application is delivered with an admin dashboard to manage users, content and settings without any technical intervention.

A prototype in a few weeks, then short iterations

Rather than a fifty-page specification and six months in a tunnel, we deliver a first working prototype (an MVP) in two to four weeks, which you test with real users. The next features are then prioritised together and delivered in short stages, each of which is usable. It is the method that avoids nasty surprises, and it often saves half of the scope originally imagined. Read also: MVP: launch your web app with a minimal version.

    What you get

    • Responsive application (mobile, tablet, desktop), installable as a PWA
    • User accounts, roles and permissions
    • Secure PostgreSQL database, backed up, hosted in Europe
    • Admin dashboard
    • Offline mode and notifications where the business case justifies it
    • Multilingual possible from the first version
    • Documentation, user training and source code handed over
    • Hosting, domain name and automatic updates

    How the project unfolds

    1. 1

Scoping workshop (1 to 2 days)

We observe how you work and list the screens and data actually needed for a first version.

    2. 2

Working prototype (2 to 4 weeks)

A reduced but usable version, with real data, that you test in the field.

    3. 3

Iterations (sprints of 1 to 2 weeks)

Each cycle adds features prioritised together, in production immediately.

    4. 4

      Launch, training and follow-up

Go-live, team training, then maintenance and further development on demand.

    Details of our method.

    What budget to plan for?

The budget for an application depends on the number of screens and roles, the complexity of the business rules, the integrations (payment, accounting, emailing, third-party APIs) and the requirements for offline mode or multilingual support. A simple single-role business app and a multi-user platform with payments are not in the same order of magnitude.

Our prototype-based approach lets you start with a controlled budget and then invest at the pace of real usage. Detailed quote within 48 hours of our first conversation.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a web app, a PWA and a native app?

A web app is used in the browser. A PWA is a web app that can be installed on the phone, works offline and sends notifications, without going through the app stores. A native app is developed separately for iOS and Android and distributed through the App Store and Play Store: more expensive to build and maintain, it is only justified for very specific needs (advanced sensors, games, very heavy graphics).

Can a PWA be published on the app stores?

Yes, if you want it: a PWA can be packaged and published on the Play Store and, with a few adaptations, on the App Store. In most cases, direct installation from the browser is enough and avoids commissions and approval delays.

    Is my data safe?

Data is stored in an encrypted, backed-up PostgreSQL database hosted in Europe, with per-user access rules. Exchanges are encrypted (HTTPS) and authentication follows current best practices. We document the processing for your GDPR records.

Can you take over an existing application?

Yes, after an audit of the code and the database. Depending on its condition, we propose either a gradual takeover or a rebuild with data migration. The audit lets you decide with full knowledge of the facts.

How long until a first version?

Between two and four weeks for a usable working prototype, then deliveries every one to two weeks. Most business applications are fully in production within two to three months.

    What happens after delivery?

You keep the code and the access credentials. We offer support for maintenance, hosting and further development, with no fixed-term commitment.
